The numbers here tell you how hot and cold the weather usually is at Cape Hatteras on the Outer Banks of North Carolina during each month of the year.

The average high and low temperatures are listed below, monthly and annually, for the Outer Banks landmark in both degrees Fahrenheit and Celsius.

The hottest days at Cape Hatteras usually peak in the 80s F, thanks to the moderating influence of the Atlantic Ocean. Hatteras Island averages eight days a year when the thermometer climbs to 90 degrees or more.

The hottest days most commonly occur in July. But 90-degree weather can show up anytime from May to September.

How Often Cape Hatteras Has Cold Temperatures

Nighttime temperatures on the Outer Banks at Hatteras Island typically drop to below freezing for 17 nights a year. Yet the thermometer rarely goes as low as 20 °F (-8 °C). The island gets weather that cold just once a year on average. A night of 20 or below is most likely in January, but can happen in February.

No matter how cold it is at night, nearly every day on the Outer Banks warms to above freezing. The Frisco and Buxton area averages just one frost-filled day per year.
