Cleveland Snowfall Totals & Accumulation Averages

These averages don't show how much Cleveland's snowfall varies from year to year.
In December, for instance, one in four years totals 17.6 inches or more of new snow. Another 25 percent of years receive less than 6.9 inches for the month.
Similarly in January, fresh snowfall in the heaviest years amounts to over 23.8 inches, while the lightest years get less than 11.6 inches.
Snow in February ranges from over 19.8 inches in heavy snowfall years to under 7.8 inches in light years.
When Cleveland Has Its First & Last Snowfalls
Cleveland's first snowfall of winter usually arrives in November, although sometimes a light dusting of snow shows up as early as October.
The season's last snowfall typically happens in April. Less commonly, it can stop snowing in March or a late snowstorm will arrive in May.
Cleveland is normally free of snow every year from June to September.
How Many Snowstorms Cleveland Gets
Just over half the days with snowfall in Cleveland result in only a skiff, amounting to less than an inch left on the ground. For 20 days a year on average, the amount of new snow totals at least an inch.
Snowstorms of over five inches a day normally occur two or three times a year. But major blizzards that dump ten inches or more in one day are rare events.
