These records go back to 1938, with a few years missing data. During that time the heaviest downpour measured for a single day was 13.51 inches (343.2 millimetres) on August 13, 2014.

Since 1964 the precipitation extremes were observed at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma. Before then, the weather station was at nearby Patchogue.
